Udeigwe is a Professor of Mathematics and Director of Integrative Programs at Manhattan University, a Research Affiliate in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT, as well as a pianist, vocalist and composer.
In mathematics, a lemma is a statement that supports a larger concept. With his newest album, Four Lemmas, Toward a Proof of Identity in Music and Mathematics, Udeigwe used this idea as a starting point and composed an eight-track suite based on mathematical concepts.
In different hands this approach might be merely an intellectual exercise, but in Udeigwe’s, the music is an impressionistic, dreamlike exploration of his varied interests and cultural influences.
